Greenhill and Bronx Science Tournaments Registration Now Open
Aaron Timmons and Jon Cruz sent out their tournament invites this week and announced that the Greenhill and Bronx Science tournaments were now open for registration on Joy of Tournaments.
Greenhill Invite:
Greetings!
I am pleased to announce that registration is now open for this year’s installment of the Greenhill Fall Classic at http://www.joyoftournaments.com/tx/greenhill/info.asp .
This year’s tournament will be held on September 13 – 15, 2008. The Greenhill Fall Classic has again been selected to serve a duel role as a maximum point earner for the National Debate Coaches Association Championships as well an octo-finals qualifier for the Tournament of Champions. The Greenhill Fall Classic is for coaches most experienced Policy and Lincoln – Douglas debaters.
We are pride ourselves on having excellent judging, hospitality and facilities for coaches and students. All students and coaching attending will be served complimentary breakfast and lunch as part of the entry fee. We will continue our practice of doing all we can to make this event as nice as possible for coaches and judges as well. We work hard in our quest to make Greenhill not just another tournament, but an educational experience that people look forward to year after year.
In addition, we understand that times are tough as it relates to airfares, extra baggage fees and the like. Please know that we are having some conversations internally that we hope will result in some actions that should be able to ease the burden that attending our event might cause teams. It is our hope that such conversations (and subsequent actions) will be had by all those that are hosting tournaments this year. More information will be given as we get closer to the tournament.
Last year our capacity was filled LONG before the entry deadline. We highly recommend that coaches enter ASAP.
We look forward to hosting you in September.
Aaron Timmons
Bronx Science:
Greetings!

Last year, registration filled in one division in the first thirty-six hours. As promised, I have sent out a reminder about a week before registration opens, and I will send out a final reminder once registration does open on Friday. Do not be left out!
This year’s tournament will take place on October 24, 25, and 26, 2008. We have flipped weekends with the St. Mark’s Heart of Texas Invitational, which will take place on the prior weekend.
The New York City Invitational features Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Team Debate, Public Forum Debate, and Legislative Debate. Bronx Science is a qualifying competition for the Tournament of Champions in all four events. Quarterfinalists in Lincoln-Douglas Debate, semifinalists in Team Debate, semifinalists in Public Forum debate, and the top six competitors in Legislative Debate will receive bids to the TOC.
Over the past three years, our tournament included participation from across the country, including teams from Alabama, Arizona, California, Connecticut, the District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, NewJersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, and Washington State. We anticipate that even more states and schools will be represented this year.
Last year’s final round in Lincoln-Douglas Debate featured the Hockaday School’s Joan Gass and Trinity Preparatory School’s Jake Nebel. Our Team Debate final round included teams from Lexington High School and Lakeland High School. Regis High School closed out the final round of Public Forum Debate. (Our tournament in Legislative Debate debuts this year.)
“Tastes of the World,” our popular hospitality program introduced three years ago, will again allow attendees to be treated from meals from around the globe, in honor of the many cultures upon which our diverse student body is built. We are pleased to announce that a new parent steering committee has been organized to help us make the quality of this food and the ease of its distribution the best yet.
The considerable strength of both our competitive and judging pools across divisions, as well as our mandatory paradigm disclosure, open tabulation room, judge strike systems in both Lincoln-Douglas and Team Debate, and the newest installment of the nationally-renowned Bronx Round Robin in Lincoln-Douglas Debate will make this a tournament worth attending in all divisions. Our gorgeous, high-quality individual and team awards, perpetual trophies, and other special honors guarantee that your experience at the New York City Invitational will be remembered and celebrated.
Again, we encourage you to register early, as we anticipate the tournament will fill very quickly. With low registration costs, meals provided, and free housing available for students (first come, first served), our competition at Bronx Science is one of the best values on the calendar.
We hope to see you and your team in New York this October.
